Stainless Steel Self Priming Pumps

Stainless Steel Self Priming pumps are ideal for pumping fluids that contain air or gas bubbles, or for priming the pump to pump from a lower level. SS Self Priming Pumps with a priming chamber as well as side channel pumps are available in our self-priming pump line.

What is a Self Priming Pump, and how does it work?

Self Priming Pumps are a type of liquid pump that is intended to have enough liquid within the cavity or pump body to begin the pumping action. This might lead to higher operational efficiency in process facilities where pumps are employed for a range of repetitive yet intermittent tasks. Some pumps are built with the necessary start-up liquid in the chamber or body at all times. These pumps are known as “self-priming” pumps. Other pumps need that the start-up liquid is poured into the pump before it can begin to operate. There is no actual advantage to one type of pump over another; it all depends on what the pump is used for and how often it is used.

Self-priming pumps have been included in several types of pumps. These pumps have tight tolerance functioning elements that retain fluids in the pump’s body, preventing them from returning from the discharge side to the suction side when the pump is turned off. The continual presence of fluid in the pump’s body helps it to better handle what are known as “air pockets” in these sorts of pumps. Air pockets are a buildup of air bubbles in the pump’s operating mechanism that might cause the pump to malfunction.

Self Priming Pump advantages and disadvantages

Advantages of Self Priming Pumps

* Suitable with a wide range of liquids

* Slurries, caustic liquids, and suspended solids are no problem for this machine.

* Self Priming centrifugal pumps, unlike submersible pumps, continue to pump liquids even after they have been removed from a liquid tank or vessel.

* Pump priming on start-up is not required, which makes it ideal for frequent and intermittent pumping operations.

Disadvantages of Self Priming Pumps

* Cannot work unless the original priming liquid is present in the pump’s reservoir.

* Because a liquid reservoir is required, this type of centrifugal pump may be bigger than a regular model, which may present problems in situations where space is restricted.

* To minimise depletion of the pump’s liquid reservoir during self-priming activities, the pump should be as close to the production lines as feasible.
